Caryn Coleman is the founder of The Future of Film is Female, a non-profit organization that amplifies the work of all women and non-binary filmmakers through its short film fund, commitment to exhibition, and community building programs. Since 2018, the FOFIF has provided funding and post-production grants to over 36 projects and has brought screening programs to cinemas, such at the Museum of Modern Art, inspiring and introducing audiences to new voices in independent cinema.

Caryn was the Director of Programming/Special Projects (2013 – 2021) at Nitehawk Cinema where she founded/director of the annual Nitehawk Shorts Festival and head of department programming.

Her blog The Girl Who Knew Too Much received the 2012 Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation Art Writers Initiative grant, and was co-editor of the philosophy journal Incognitum Hactenus. She has organized conversations for the Art House Convergence, Athena Film Festival, Connective Conversations for the Ford Foundation at the University of Oregon, The Gotham (IFP), Nightstream, and the CAA. She received her MFA at Goldsmiths College, UK.

Previously, she was the Curator for the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts’ Art & Law Residency (2011 & 2012) and owned the art gallery sixspace in Los Angeles (2002-2008) / Chicago (1998-2000).

Coleman received her MFA in Curating from Goldsmiths College.
